EMC Centera is a content-addressed data storage system which is intended for the long-term preservation of unchanging data. Unlike regular storage systems, Centera has been optimised for solutions that store unchanging data.

Infore considers EMC Centera to be the best CAS solution on the market. Centera is based on a two-tier data archiving logic. First, the data is written on the archiving device and is assigned a unique address. Next, the details of the item are entered in a database, used for retrieving the file from the archive or simply for metadata-based processing. The files do not have a physical location in the system – items are located based on their address, regardless of the item’s location on the disk array.

Although the EMC Centera hardware has great interfacing options with various international platforms through its own API layer, interfacing is made especially convenient with the Infore Enterprise Archive application.
